Break of Dawn - Privacy Policy

Effective: 12 September 2026

Applies to: Break of Dawn and the Break of Dawn Demo, on every platform they are distributed on.

Break of Dawn is made by Benjamin Schultz, trading as Kalyx Games ("we", "us"). This page explains what the game collects, why, where it goes, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version: the game sends anonymous gameplay statistics so we can balance the game and find bugs. It never collects your name, email, Steam account, or anything that identifies you as a person. You can turn it off in Settings.

1. What the game collects

1a. Automatic gameplay telemetry

While you play, the game sends a small snapshot at the end of each wave to a server we operate. Each snapshot contains:

This data is sent to a Cloudflare Worker we control. Like any web server, Cloudflare's infrastructure sees the IP address of the connection while it is being made. We do not store IP addresses and do not link them to gameplay data.

1b. The run log you can choose to share

When you quit the game, it may ask whether you would like to share your run history. This is opt-in: nothing is sent unless you choose Yes. If you do, the game sends your local run history file, your operating system name (for example "Windows"), and the game version to a server we operate, which stores it in a private repository we use for bug tracking and balance work.

If you choose No, or close the prompt, nothing is sent. The run history stays on your computer.

1c. The feedback form

The game has a button that opens a feedback form in your web browser. Anything you type there is submitted to that form, which is hosted by Google, and Google's privacy policy applies to it. Nothing in the game is sent to the form automatically. We ask you not to put personal information in the form beyond what you are comfortable sharing.

2. What the game does not collect

The game contains no advertising and no third-party analytics SDK.

3. Why we collect it

We collect gameplay telemetry for two purposes only:

Under the GDPR, our legal basis for the automatic telemetry is legitimate interest in improving the game, balanced against the fact that the data is pseudonymous and low-risk. Our basis for the opt-in run log and the feedback form is your consent, which you give by choosing to send them.

We do not sell this data, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything other than making the game better.

4. Where it goes and who handles it

None of these companies are given access to the data for their own purposes. Data may be processed in the United States.

5. How long we keep it

6. Your choices

Because the telemetry contains no personal identifiers, we cannot look up, correct, or delete "your" records on request - we have no way to know which records are yours. That is by design.

If you are in the EU, UK, or a jurisdiction with similar rights and believe we hold personal data about you, contact us using the details below and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Children

Break of Dawn is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the local threshold). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The game collects no personal data from anyone, so there is no mechanism by which a child's personal data could be collected through it.

8. Steam and other storefronts

If you bought or downloaded the game on Steam, Valve's Steam client collects its own data under Valve's privacy policy, which we do not control. The same applies to itch.io or any other store. This policy covers only what Break of Dawn itself does.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change what the game collects, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Changes that expand what is collected will be announced in the game's update notes.
